Reset SMC and Reset NVRAM steps worked fine for me. I tried to stick to your manual, but some things don't work this way. So, I have macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 17G5019 installed. In 2016 my GPU broke and I get it replaced for free with Apple Exchange and Repair Extension Programs (ended in 2016). I have Macbook Pro 2011 15" (2 GHz Intel Core i7).
